One of the best things about becoming a parent is that you can indulge your taste for childish things, all the while claiming you're doing it for your kid. Only my most recent personal example: I have become addicted to Dover Books. Just last week the House of the Seven Gables arrived in the mail. Now I'm coveting the Pope John Paul II Paper Dolls:
Also The Dalai Lama Paper Doll:
If you sign up, the kind people at Dover will email you free samples every week. It's another reason to look forward to Fridays. Actually, now that I have a small child and work pretty much 24/7 including weekends (you know, except when I'm goofing off on the internet) the Dover sampler might be the main reason I look forward to Fridays.

How come the Dalai Lama gets stripped down to his skivvies, but the Pope gets to wear a "house robe"? Huh.
I use having children as an excuse to buy all sorts of stuff I normally wouldn't. Like Oreos. Not that I let THEM eat them....

Man, I really want that House of Seven Gables now. You know, it's not a bad drive from where you are to see the original. And you can pop into the Salem Witch Museum while you are there. (Is there a Dover version of that, I wonder?)

I like that House of Seven Gables, too. The Frank Lloyd Wright one looks good, too. If I had the Pope, though, I'd worry about where to keep him. Ahh, the Pope is in a shoe box..

babelbabe, I have a feeling (though I'm not one hundred percent sure) that you'd see the Pope in his skivvies if you bought the book. Those images are the only samples I got. I wonder if they plan to do the new Pope? He doesn't seem as if he'd be impressed.
Too bad they didn't make the buildings big enough to house the dolls, Susan. The Pope could live in the House of the Seven Gables and the Dalai Lama in the Frank Lloyd Wright one. Although maybe we should petition them to do the Vatican.
And Sara, you're right. I always disregard the New England states when thinking of traveling, out of habit. They're just like here only a LOT more expensive, I used to think. Now that's not so! And I wouldn't be surprised to see a book of Salem witch paper dolls. That Tom Tierney guy is prolific. I've got more books of his paper dolls than I care to admit. I'm planning on using his seventies family dolls with our faces cut and pasted on them for Christmas cards. Maybe.

I went through a huge Dover adult coloring book phase when Aaron was little and I was itching for the day when we could color together...
