The pizza gets "twirled and whirled."
A couple of weeks ago we discovered William Steig's Pete's a Pizza. If you have a small child, this is a book you should either run right out and buy -- or avoid at all costs. It depends. Steig based the book on a game he used to play with his daughter.
It's raining and Pete's baseball game has been delayed. Pete's father thinks it might cheer him up to be made into a pizza. He picks him up and carries him into the kitchen where he places him on the table and proceeds to knead him, stretch him, "twirl and whirl" him, and place various toppings on him. He then pretends to cook him in the oven. But before his father can slice him up and eat him, Pete dashes away. Of course he has to be chased and caught and, in the end, hugged instead of eaten.
The book has been in our possession for only two weeks but we have spent what feels like at least a thousand hours playing a thousand variations of this game. It's either a great way to pass the time while we're cooped up inside due to inclement weather -- or an additional circle of hell. You know, depending on your point of view.
The pizza gets sprinkled with water.
"Pepperoni" is added.
The pizza escapes. (The torn paper towel is "cheese.")
The pizza on the run.
I think it's adorable. I wish my girls were young enough to play the game.

We used to play Timmy's a pizza. Such fun! When his Elementary School had dress up as a book character day, we taped some "cheese" and "tomatoes" to his clothes and he walked in the parade holding the book. (He is now 14 years old. Such fun when he was small, though!) Love your pictures of it!
Oh, I've also used the book in Library storytime and got out stuffed animals for the kids to make into pizzas.

Love the photos! When I was little we used to play Dough, in which my older sister would "knead" my younger brother and I, put salt and pepper on us, and then we would run and hide. We loved this game!
Never read Pete's a Pizza though. I'll have to get my hands on it somehow.
